A North Carolina Railroad Station in
CATAWBA
Former Southern Railway station. Railroad line removed 1973
Nancy Poovey writes:
I took this picture in 1973 right before it was to be removed. I was raised about 50 yards from the Catawba Depot in N.C. I learned to sleep with trains running by my bedroom window and shaking the whole house. The house is still there. I remember my father carring a mail bag, putting it on a hook designed so, as the mail carrying train passed through, the train mailman would use his hook and grab the mail bag and drop off the one for
our town. If he happened to miss it, it would just have to wait until the next mail train came through, usually one o'clock in the morning, and another in the afternoon.
