The California State Railroad Museum at Sacramento

by Ken Humphreys

The California State Railroad Museum at Sacramento is the true "Cadillac" of railroad museums. The exhibits are superb and every piece of rolling stock in the museum has been totally restored. There is no railroad museum anywhere of this caliber. Everything is immaculate and looks like it just rolled off of the assembly line. If I have anything negative to say about this superb museum, it is that the interior lighting is minimal making photography quite difficult, even with a flash, unless a tripod is available, something which rail buffs ordinarily do not carry with them when railfanning.
