The Caņon City and Royal Gorge Railroad

by Ken Humphreys

The Caņon City and Royal Gorge Railroad (http://www.royalgorgeroute.com) offers a very scenic rail trip out of Caņon City, Colorado and into Royal Gorge following the old Denver & Rio Grand Western line through the 12-mile canyon. Quoting their web site, "If you're looking for an experience where you can relax, take in breathtaking views... and enjoy a railroad steeped in Colorado history, this scenic and historic train will meet and exceed your expectations." If you are lucky while on the train you may get to see some of the operations of another line, the Rock & Rail Rail Road. Photos of that line also appear on this web site. This page shows a few photos of the Caņon City and Royal Gorge Railroad and the Royal Gorge itself. See the Railroad's web site for more photos and some videos of the line.
