Lowell Amrine's Sugerbeet Trains

Image 8250 East

It is nine o'clock on a very hot June morning 1983, as Southern Pacific SD40T-2
Number 8520 along with three additional T-motors wheel 109 empty sugar beet gons off the
mainline at Niland, California and onto the Calexico Branch. After distributing the empty beet
gons at loaders between Calipatria, Brawley, and Imperial, the quartet will return to the
mainline at Niland and run cab hop to Yuma - the beet rush is on!
