PIEDMONT AND WESTERN RAILROAD CLUB
PRESENTS
The North Carolina Railroad Station Photo Page
This section of the P&WRR webpage began using the photos of
one of our club members, Gene Austin, who had been taking
photographs of various railroad stations here in North Carolina.
Many of the photos originally shown here, and some which remain,
were taken by him years ago when he was just getting interested
into railroad photography and railfanning. Understandably, the
quality of some of these older photos is not high.
Mr. John D Jones of Laurens, SC has contributed many North
Carolina photos for this site. Mr. Jones has been travelling
around the Carolinas for many years hunting out present and former
stations and photographing them. He has contributed several
hundred excellent photos of depots and other railroad structures
for this site. Because of the higher quality of digital
photography, in some cases, Mr. Jones' photos have replaced those
which originally appeared on this site.
More recently, Terry Blevins, Brian Ezzelle, Arthur Peterson, Matt Bumgarner, Lynn McConnell and John T.
Willams, Jr. contributed many historic
photographs of North Carolina stations and structures, some dating
back as much as 100 years or more. Many of these photos depict
stations which no longer exist.
We also thank Rev. S. David Carriker for providing his extensive
collection of historic depot photographs and Lynn McConnell whose
research into the history of North Carolina depots has been an
invaluable asset in aiding us to properly identify a number of the
photographs on these pages.
This site shows the various and many different station styles
throughout North Carolina plus a number of other railroad
structures throughout the State. A great many of the stations are
now abandoned or have been converted to other uses. Some have been
demolished since the photos were taken.

A excellent website for information on railroad stations anywhere
in the United States is that of the Railroad Station Historical
Society, Inc., http://rrshs.org/.
Check it out!
If you find the quality of any image poor, just remember how
often you have said "Gee, if only I had taken a picture of that
when I was 15 years old".
Click on the city to view the station image(s). Some
cities have more than one station.
If you have any photographs of North Carolina Railroad
Stations that we don't have or have better quality photos, and
would like to add to our railroad station archives, just e-mail
the P&WRR Webmaster.
Also, if you have any information that we can add regarding
the history and use of any railroad station in North Carolina,
we would gladly use any help you can supply.
